Musical Director 1992-
Since becoming Musical Director for the Bournemouth Gilbert & Sullivan Operatic Society in 1992, she has brought the standard of our music up to a very high level, organised all the music rehearsals and conducted the Spring show/concert season and main production each year.
On our 5 trips to the International G&S Festival, she has conducted the professional orchestra there for our performances, been nominated twice for the award of Best Musical Director and won that award on one of those occasions.
She set up her own choral group Cantabilé over 9 years ago which has been very successful and performs several concerts a year with full orchestra -
She also runs the Bournemouth Youth Choir based in Winton.
After 21 years she finally retired as our Musical Director in May 2013. Over the years she has done so much for the Society and improved the overall quality of the music considerably. She will be very much missed, but having been made a Life Member won’t be allowed to loose touch!
In 2014 she was invited back as the Musical Director for the Society’s Gala Concert where she had to control a 27 piece orchestra, a chorus of over 100 singers and 6 professional principals! Needless to say, the concert was a huge success.
Jean graduated from the Royal College of Music where she studied violin, piano and accompanying. On completion of her studies she moved to Dorset where she taught music in several local schools.
