Resident Musical Director
Jean Holt
Since becoming Musical Director for the Bournemouth Gilbert & Sullivan Operatic Society in 1991, she has brought the standard of our music up to a very high level, organised all the music rehearsals and conducted the Spring show/concert season and main production each year.
On our 5 trips to the Buxton International G&S Festival, she has conducted the professional orchestra there for our performances, been nominated twice for the award of Best Musical Director and won that award on one of those occasions.
She has now retired from a long held position as Head of Music at St. Edwards School in Poole, which has allowed her more time to get involved with many other musical groups.
She set up her own choral group Cantabilé 6 years ago which has been very successful
and performs several concerts a year with full orchestra -
She also runs the Bournemouth Youth Choir based in Winton.
Jean graduated from the Royal College of Music where she studied violin, piano and accompanying. On completion of her studies she moved to Dorset where she taught music in several local schools.
